As part of the process the magazine looked at certain incidents on the FAA Runway Safety Support, looking in particular at those that could have resulted in devastating collisions. LAX International came in at third position on the most dangerous list with around sixty reported incidences on the runway and a score of 4.41 over the past five years.

For the moment Korean Air will offer three weekly flights aboard the airbus. However, by the end of October it is expected to offer daily flights on that route, which means that more people will be able to enjoy convenience and ease when traveling this route.

The huge Airbus A380 is a state of the art carrier, which comes with three bars and even has its own duty free store. While the aircraft could potentially hold more than 850 economy class passengers due to its size, Korean Air has decided to opt for 407 as a maximum, 301 of which will be in economy class.

John Jackson, a vice president of marketing for Korean Air, said: “Our A380 is a game changer for Los Angeles. We now offer service to Asia that no one else can meet,” Jackson said. “Our aircraft is roomier, quieter and more comfortable than any other serving the Los Angeles area.”

It was reported that debris from the construction, which was in the elevator shaft, was accidentally ignited by a welder. A number of firefighters were sent to the terminal at around 8:36am and put the fire out in less than fifteen minutes after they arrived.

After the fire was put out smoke continued to linger at the terminal and fans had to be used to try and clear the air. A large number of both employees of the airport and passengers had to be evacuated following the incident and were sent to a secure part of the terminal.

Passengers who were evacuated were not screened again before boarding their flights as this was deemed unnecessary by authorities. According to officials there were no flight delays that occurred as a result of the incident. Firefighters said that the fire was in a non-public area and was a small fire.

The shipment was said to have come from a Chinese company and was headed for Illinois. Officials have not given the name of the companies that were involved and the chemicals were seized and destroyed, with no arrests being made. Officials also said that this sort of incident had become more and more common when it came to shipments from China.

It is claimed that the shipment had been red flagged before it arrived at LAX and the company involved claimed to be shipping the chemicals. However, the company did not have the necessary permissions to ship the controlled substances. It was said to be a 1 1/2-ton shipment of chemicals that was intercepted by authorities.

Customs and Border Protection spokesman Jaime Ruiz stated: “It is a huge amount of a highly flammable, corrosive chemical used to manufacture methamphetamine.”
