According to recent reports, LAX International Airport has been ranked as one of the most dangerous airports in the United States. This is according to a report by Travel and Leisure magazine, which compared thirty five of the busiest commercial airports in America.

As part of the process the magazine looked at certain incidents on the FAA Runway Safety Support, looking in particular at those that could have resulted in devastating collisions. LAX International came in at third position on the most dangerous list with around sixty reported incidences on the runway and a score of 4.41 over the past five years.

One of the most shocking incidents occurred just several years ago, when a WestJet 737 that was landing almost collided with a Northwest Airbus that was about to take off.

Top of the list for the most dangerous airport in the United States was O’Hare Airport in Chicago and second on the list was Cleveland Hopkins airport. Officials have said that while these incidents can be narrowed down to many different things it is normally the pilots that are to blame. Wes Timmons, FAA’s recently retired director of runway safety, said: “Two-thirds of all runway incursions are caused by pilot deviation.”
