Save Money with Weekday Traveling this Summer

March 17, 2011 by

Travelling for your summer vacation can be quite pricey. In fact, many people cannot afford a summer vacation. Others may manage a trip, but then they do not have anything in the budget to actually enjoy any attractions while they are vacationing. If you are one of these people, then one of the first things you need to do is consider money saving options. There are ways that you can cut costs so that you and your family can still enjoy a trip and do enjoyable things on a trip without breaking the budget.

One of the biggest ways to save money for your vacation is to choose carefully when you actually go on vacation. The summer months are already more expensive as it is, but there are ways you can cut costs by vacationing during the week instead of on the weekend.

Save Money on Hotels

Hotel expenses are much higher on the weekends, and when you choose to book your stay during the week, you can save potentially hundreds of dollars. Just when do hotel rates go up? Generally, hotel rates are at their lowest Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The weekends usually include Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and rates can go up anywhere from twenty to one hundred dollars a night. If possible, plan your vacation to only include week nights, but be sure to check with the hotel that you choose because some of them include Thursday night as a weekend as well.

Save Money on Flights

Airlines traditionally charge lower amounts on airfares during the week as well. In fact, several studies have shown that purchasing your tickets for a flight on Tuesday or Wednesday will save you several hundred dollars on a round trip flight. If you will be staying through a weekend, consider making your flight back home on a Monday instead of a Sunday because there can be a drastic price difference on airfare between the two days.

Save Money on Attractions

Many theme parks and attractions charge lower rates during the week when you buy tickets. If you will be visiting such attractions, be sure to find out the different price rates for week days and for weekends. While the price difference may only be a few dollars, they can certainly add up if you visit more than one of these locations or if you are buying tickets for the whole family.

When you are planning your summer vacation, do not let a tight budget ruin your chances for a fun trip. Instead, consider looking for ways to save money. If you choose to travel during the week, you can save a great deal of money in a number of different ways. Airlines and hotels traditionally charge less for flights and room rentals during the weeks. Many different theme parks and attractions charge less during the week as well. When you are looking for cost cutting options for your summer vacation, you will find that vacationing during the week can save you a great deal of money quite easily.
